Monitoring your Health & Fitness Progress
After our last blog on keeping to New Year’s Resolutions, we talked to Sian Thomas about her experiences:
“Well my [New Year’s Resolution for 2015] was to lose weight as it always is… not doing so well as I have only lost 5 pounds so far. What keeps me going is having a Fitness App as it tells me that I haven’t lost anything in the last week so I feel I have to do something about that. The App helps me keep on track so that I don’t put on weight because I don’t want to see the graph that they give you go up instead of down. I think for losing weight it is best to have someone to do it with and to almost compete with, like a competition.”
Sian continues:
“MyFitnessPal is the main Fitness App which I am using, it is really easy to use and to input the food that you are eating as well as the exercises that you are doing. You can also scan barcodes on food such as tins of soup or a ready meal from M&S as it comes up with the correct food item with the calories and nutritional information.”
The use of diet apps can help providing a guiding hand. Someone to confide in who is not judgemental – but also a good source of advice.
My Fitness Pal App can be downloaded for free. As Sian says, it records your personal statistics and you can put in what you have eaten; it gives the calorie count and nutritional value of an incredible range of food – including that from specific shops and that made from scratch at home. It will tell you how many more calories you can eat that day based on how much activity you have taken. A great help with the mental arithmetic if you are calorie counting!
As an alternative there is another Free App called Superfoods. This explains some of the mysteries surrounding foods that come under this banner. And shows you not only how they help us to become healthier but also how to incorporate all the different varieties in your diet.
Can I Eat It? – Best app for checking Nutrients. This app is useful if you have a food intolerance. Fooducate has also been recommended by experts – it allows you to quickly pull up information from bar codes.
Primal Paleo – Best for Paleo – paleo diets are those that are said to emulate the diet of early humans. So diary, cereal and processed foods are excluded. Such a diet is said to work with your genetics to help avoid degenerative diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, depression and infertility.
Green Kitchen – Best for Veggies. Recipes created by the bloggers of the Green Kitchen.
At Fitness Adventure Travel we recommend that you download your fitness app of choice and see if it can help you stay on track with your diet to become fit and healthy.
