Moroccan Fitness Adventure, Day 3
On Balancing Fitness and Culture
The more I teach abroad the more I become aware of how fitness translates. Simply put: sport, fitness, and physical health is how the body moves and communicates. Engaging in different exercises prompts the body to learn how to stand, hold breathe, engage, and relax. A professional and experienced coach or instructor will be able to transcend language and learn how to communicate with any variety of gestures and key phrases in demonstrations for the class, beyond language and fitnesses levels. Each and everyday in Morocco, I balance my teaching sport time with my communication time and learn what the people in my class need for their bodies. Yes, of course I am used to walking into a gym in Southern California and teaching in English, commanding the class with voice and motions; however, when I am abroad I’m forced to balance language and my expectations as an instructor with unique exercise environments and cultural observance. In all sport, exercise and language practice is required. Some days are exceptional and some are simply painful. The key to all training is consistency.
I hope to see you for the Moroccan Fitness Adventure for balanced, structured, and consistent programs that are for your mind and bodies’ needs.
